This week I wanted to go further back to one of my most favourite models I’ve not talked about before – Belisarius Cawl.
Archmagos Belisarius Cawl has always interested me. Not only was he an incredible model to build and paint, but his character itself is fascinating. He’s over 10,000 years old! What is that even about!? That’s not even the fascinating part, it’s his whole cyborg thing he has going on. And to match his kickass exterior his mind is made up of multiple AIs that are duplicates of his own, original mind. I’m almost 100% this fella thinks he’s going to live forever.
I’m yet to play my Adeptus Mechanicus, and to be fair I’ve not built the entire set. I still have a Dragoon, 5 Electro-Priests and 5 Ruststalkers to put together, then, of course, more painting.
I had so much fun painting Beli, and to be honest he’s still not completely finished. Just looking at him again now there are still highlights I need to do and clearly his base also (it seems I have some sort of base related procrastination disorder).
It’s funny when you pick up a model you’ve mostly painted a fair while back – it gives you heaps of inspiration to push through with your current project. Alas, my Gunhauler is still not complete, however I have started on the bottom half now – yay for me!

Thanks! Surely was though spraying him leadbelcher first helped. It made me feel as though I was already halfway through.. I wasn’t, it still took a lifetime.

Lovely stuff! It’s a great looking model and the character is delightfully eccentric. Wish I had the patience to have a go myself, I got bored after putting a skitarii together (and Cawl has 42 parts….. that’s basically a puzzle!) so the Omnissiah most certainly would not approve.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the force.

Quite a job painting, I imagine, as the others said. That is the first thing that strikes me (and probably many) about him, lol. It is interesting that he is so old and part machine. I like to imagine that he silently battles losing his humanity and becoming a soulless being, but manages to cling to sanity … all the while making primaris marines and so on.
